ASTRA OUTING TO MEIKLE BIN - 8th JUNE 2008

Base Camp - The Bonny Bonny Banks of The Caron Valley Reservoir Our hardy band of experienced mountaineers set of to conquer the summit of Meikle Bin Half way up this high altitude climb our intrepid band stop for tea and sandwiches - How very British - Pass the trifle someone. We stop at a fuel stop and take in the nice view - notice how the kids seem to be leading the way - where are those oldies? Graham dons his customary blue top for the adventure - now being sold at only the best "Man at C&A" shops
Whats that out there in the long grass - It's Lewis having a great time - a real boys day out Meghan and Mum - Galloping up that hill - but the oldies are still not to be seen Leading on to the summit - Is that Paul camping, or does he just pose for the cameras like that all the time? Here come the old brigade now - John and Paul pose for this shot Is that Paul ho;ding Aileen up or vice versa? Bringig up the rear and halfway up Meikle Bin
Well done Lewis as he reaches the summit - with the adults all well behind " all the way to the top on his back - and they were first to the top L-R Graham, John, Roisin, Paul C, Paul S & Aileen - Taking a well earned rest. As I neared the top, for a moment I thought I was at Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio - Raymond atop the trig point at the summit. Aileen at Meikle Bin Trig Point
The lesser spotted blue breasted dale harrier - otherwise known as Graham of the moors - this beast was spotted with a powerful high speed film A group photo as everyone celebrates being that little bit closer to outer space. Well done everyone! Everyone gathered at the trig point for one lasg group photo John and Paul Flying without wings Up totem pole - what can you see at the top big chief Wigwam Belardo?
And for the finl act we will jump through fire and swallow a sword I always said Aileen deserved to be put on a plinth Gavin and family ready for the trip back to base ASTRA examines a firefly plane that crashed on Meikle Bin during the 1950's and what's left of it Back at base camp, Graham and John examine the contents of Pauls feet - what a gruesome thought
